The Biber Protocol® is a painless electrical stimulation protocol designed to rehabilitate swallow function, improve facial paralysis and strengthen weak vocal folds. 

You will learn how to perform your own treatment with your own device and take charge of your own rehabilitation! 

Indications for The Biber Protocol®

• Dysphagia 
• Bell's Palsy
• Facial Droop from a stroke
• Paralyzed or weak vocal folds

A doctors prescription is not needed however it is always advisable to inform your doctor of your intent to pursue private therapy.

You must have a recent instrumental exam and report from a certified speech language pathologist and/or physician before scheduling your initial consultation.

The following exams are commonly ordered or performed by a physician and paid for by most all health insurance providers. 

For Swallowing disorders:

Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) AKA Video Fluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS)

Fiber Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)

For Voice disorders:

Videostroboscopy

Flexible Laryngoscopy 

NMES devices must be purchased separately and range in prices between $120 - $500

If you already own an electrical stimulation device such as a TENS unit it is possible that it might work for The Biber Protocol® protocol. Contact teresa@thebiberprotocol.com to find out if your own device will work.

Keep in mind that not everyone is a candidate for The Biber Protocol®. Please complete the intake form at no obligation to find out if The Biber Protocol® is right for you. Once your eligibility has been determined a price list will be provided. 

Although the Biber Protocol® can be and has been successfully used on infants and children, Teresa's specialty is adult treatment, not pediatrics. 

1 hour Face to Face online consultation including extensive case history, review of available medical records, clinical tele-evaluation, trial of compensatory strategies, suggested exercises, medical recommendations and plan of action. 

Online customized programming of device and training for patient or caregiver in performing The Biber Protocol® at home

May include follow up to make sure The Biber Protocol® is followed correctly, checking on proper exercise technique, adding additional exercises and assessment of progress
